One of the most popular cities on the Pacific Coast is Acapulco de Juárez, which has become famous for the Quebrada Cliff Divers, a set of 'brave fools' who plunge down about 37 meters from a cliff into shallow waters. Today, Acapulco has grown into a well developed tourist paradise with some of the best beaches on the Pacific Coast. You can visit the popular giant CiCi water park near Playa Icacos or take a look at the marine life inside Mundo Marino aquarium. The best known beach is probably Playa Condesa, situated in the heart of Zona Dorado (The Golden Zone). Other beaches are Playa Puerto Marques, Playa Diamante and Playa Revolcadero. Visitors that want to exploit these beautiful crystal-blue warm waters can go kayaking, windsurfing, sailing or jet skiing. Many tourists also lounge on the beach, relax while reading a book or nip cocktails while enjoying Acapulco's daily life. Its nightlife is completely different with bars, pubs and discos opened until the early hours. The main street, Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán or The Costera, is where most of the action is to be found. Cruise ships between the south of Central America and the United States often stop at Acapulco and encourage visitors to take a look at both sides of the bay offering incredible views on its towering cliffs.
Sights around Acapulco include the mining town of Taxco, known today for its fine silver jewelry. There are many interesting old colonial churces, town squares and Spanish architecture. Those interested in tropical flora and fauna should visit Coyuca Lagoon where you can book a boat tour on this in palms fringed lagoon.
Seamounts, pinnacles, steep walls and several wrecks make diving in the deep, semi-circular bay of Acapulco and just outside it a worthy experience. There is some excellent shallow diving around Roquetta Island where you can also found the sacred underwater shrine Virgen Sumergida. Novice divers can try the shallow, calm and high visibility waters near the beaches Caleta and Caletilla. Those interested in scuba diving can easily find some nice dive sites, while sun seekers and beach lovers will enjoy Acapulco as well.
