Baja California Sur has become one of the most popular getaway destinations. Its tropical climate, sunny weather and pretty white golden beaches have attracted tourists from all across the world. Los Cabos, the common name for the region between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, is one of the most touristic areas with dive shops, snorkeling tours, fishing tournaments and cruise ships visiting the interesting spots at this most southern point of the peninsula. Another old time favorite is La Paz with the islands of Espiritu Santo Island, Los Islotes and Isla la Partida being secluded and one of the prettiest areas in Mexico. Cabo Pulmo is another town which is becoming more and more touristic. You can hike around Todos Santos, experience Mexican culture and cuisine in La Paz or take the ferry to the Mexican mainland.
Diving in Baja California Sur is especially popular because of its wild colonies of sea lions. Diving is often done from small wooden pangas with easy back rolls allthough more professional dive boats also exist. The Gordo Banks offer deep diving with several of the world's largest animals and fish. Whales, sea lions, mantas and hammerhead sharks are some of the species frequently spotted here if you dive in the right season. Gerrero Negro on the Pacific side and Mulege to La Paz on the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez), are some of the best bays to go for whale watching cruises. Whenever you go, diving is always possible, it is never hard to book the trips to where you want to go and if you are not only interested in scuba diving there are many other options worth exploring.
