The name "Dos Ojos" meaning "two eyes", originated because there are two circular cenotes which are located very close to each one. Dos Ojos is known for its multiple shallow dives, giving divers plenty of bottom time to enjoy this beautifully decorated system. It lies one Kilometer south of Xel-ha and about 48 km south of Playa del Carmen. From the highway, a dirt road leads 4 km to the actual cavern and cave areas.
There are two very different caverns that start and end in the same place. The first dive called The Barbie Line leads the diver mainly along the opening of the second eye, containing plenty of daylight. It also gives divers a lot of space to swim around huge columns and stalactites. Be ready for some exciting surprises on this dive. The second dive, called the Bat Cavern is the darker of the two due to the fact that it leads around an air filled bat cave with little daylight entering. It is worth ascending here to see the stunning decorations and the bats. The two eyes are a perfect location for snorkeling and swimming close to these fantastic formations.
Cave Divers can plan many different dives and head miles in either direction into this massive cave system crossing several cenotes. Some of the best dives are downstream to the River Run and Upstream to the IMAX line where the movie "Journey into Amazing Caves" was shot.

Dos Ojos is located 48km/30miles south of Playa del Carmen. It got the name "Dos Ojos" because it has two entrances, the first eye which is the first dive, starts at 10m/30ft and you dive the right side of the cavern, exactly in the middle of this dive you'll find a plastic crocodile which is used as a sign and according with the 1/3 rule, if you don't reach this point with 2/3 of your air tank then it is mandatory to go back and finish the dive. The maximum depth for the 1st section is 12m/36ft. The second eye is much more delicate than the 1st section due to the amount of fragile stalactites and stalagmites so a good buoyancy control is highly recommended in order to not disturb the environment.
