La Paz is the capital of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur situated in a large bay of the Sea of Cortes. It has a year-round warm sunny and dry climate with winter temperatures often not dropping below twenty degrees Celsius. The cool Coromuel winds from the Pacific blow across the peninsula into the Bay of La Paz, making the summers more bearable.

Sights in La Paz include the Malecon, a romantic beach-front boulevard view phenomenal sunsets and views at the bay. Other highlights include water activities such as sailing, jet skiing, snorkeling and kayaking. The crystal clear waters are famous for international fishing tournaments catching marlin, tuna, wahoo, dorado and other game fish. There are excellent hikes out of Todos Santos that climb to heights of 1500 meter with views across the bays with a complete different climate, flora and fauna. On the road north towards Tecolote are some of the best beaches such as Playa Palmira, Playa el Coromuel, Playa del Tesoro, Playa el Caimancito, Playa Pichilingue, Playa Balandra, Playa el Tecolote and Playa el Coyote. You can visit ancient caves and rock paintings hidden in many canyons throughout the Baja California. La Paz is with its craftsmanship, arts and fiestas one of the most Mexican cities in Baja California. Interesting Spanish colonial buildings in the center worth visiting are the Cathedral de Nuestra Senora de la Paz, Plaza Constitucion (Jardin Velazco) and the city theater or Teatro de la Ciudad.

There are many dive sites around La Paz. The tranquil bays of Espiritu Santo Island, Los Islotes and Isla la Partida, the smaller island to the north, are excellent dive sites to dive with sea lions and tropical fish. Isla Cerralvo to the west and Isla San Jose far up to the north offer spectacular dive sites as well although finding dive shops that bring you here is slightly more complicated. Between January and April, many gray whale spotting tours visit Magdalena Bay a few hours north of La Paz. Other towns well known for diving tourism are Loreto to the north and Mulege with its tremendous popular Bahia de Concepcion. It is an area popular for tourists with some of the best diving in Mexico.
